I am surrounded by ghosts. They are from the past, the present, and times unknown. They are emotional, psychological, and spatial presences that explore how memory collapses time, how love resists disappearance, and how places hold impressions long after bodies have left. Ghosts are born out of love and fear; they are the parts of us that linger, and the parts others have left behind. Though they unsettle us, we continue to search for them, and find them. My search for spirits through painting connects the lonely, empty, and eerie to the warm, tangible, and whimsical. I build these scenes by visually describing paranormal theory and phenomena, allowing apparitions to materialize and cross paths with one another. These scenes of overlapping pasts with lingering presences are amplified by the current urge for connection in a present that often feels socially stunted. Ghosts and absences lie in the present while true connection, without rejection, is pursued in the past. Belief in this reality insists that impressions remain in walls, in dirt, and in the ground beneath us. Time may be unstable, but our gestures toward one another endure. The work occupies this comforting paradox, grounded yet otherworldly, melancholic yet quietly hopeful.
