The Music or the Words

In this body of work, I reflect on different types of connection through depictions of local music scenes. I have been a musician my whole life, and I have always felt myself gravitating towards these communities. When I started this body of work, I started to notice the complexities of identity and connection within the scene. I painted these scenes for my own enjoyment, fascinated by the anatomy and humanity of instruments as well as the social aspects. In this work, I explore themes of connection and intimacy, performance and masking, and authenticity and judgement through depictions of the local music scene, both on stage and personally.
