In- Between

This body of work is a tribute to the life I have spent in my own head. Nobody can see and appreciate your exact experiences and point-of-view, so the mind can become a lonely place. I have worked on both channeling and accepting this loneliness, and the precious connections I have made. I use landscapes from areas that I grew up in, comfortingly empty and beautifully melancholic, architectural metaphor, and blurry and obscured figures that haunt the painted space.
My decisions are mainly influenced by my own memory. Memory is a valuable tool for me. I use the erosion of imagery that time and my own brain cause to distort my paintings. Reality is entirely held up by the mind, and I rely on the work that it does in remembering. This is the reason for the semi-abstraction, and superimposition of images. Connections between experiences, and the cyclical nature of time guide my choices of imagery and combination. My paintings are observations of emotions, thought, and memory, portrayed with the same physicality as if they were real, as if they were merely images caught between the eyes, layered over each other through retinal burn.
